Abstract

A field experiment was conducted on fixed plot during rabi 2000-01 to 2003-04 on medium black calcareous soil (Typic Ustocrepts) with garlic cv. GG-3 to study the effect of potassium (three levels 0, 50 and 75 kg K₂O ha^-1), and zinc (two levels 0 and 25 kg ZnSO₄ ha^-1) and FYM (20 t ha^-1) in a RBD having three replications. Significantly the highest bulb yield, leaves yield and bulb weight were recorded under application of ZnSO₄ @ 25 kg ha^-1 with potassium @ 75 kg ha^-1. Application of zinc and potassium also significantly increased the uptake of Zn and K by garlic. Available K and Zn progressively increased with increase in levels of respective elements.

Abstract

A lysimeter experiment was conducted during Rabi season of 2004 and 2005 to evaluate five varieties of chick pea with five salinity levels (ECiw-0.5, 2.0, 4.0, 6.0 and 8.0 dSm^-1) at Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh. The grain and fodder yields decreased significantly with an increasing in the salinity of irrigation water during both the year as well as in pooled. Among the varieties of chick pea, variety GG-4 gave significantly the highest grain and fodder yield in all the salinity levels of irrigation water. The variety GG-4 recorded highest mean grain yield (17.38 g), mean salinity index (71.2%), minimum Na/K ratio (0.34) in fodder and minimum yield reduction (46.2) at high salinity levels.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during Kharif, 2003 at Junagadh (Gujarat) to study the effect of varying levels of sulphur (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg ha^-l) and potassium (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg ha^-l) on growth, yield attributes and yield of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) cv. G-TIL-2. The results revealed that sesame responded significantly to the application of sulphur and potassium up to 40 kg ha^-l for growth,quality, yield attributes and yield of sesame.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted on medium black calcareous soils during Kharif, 2003 at Junagadh Agricultural university, Junagadh with four levels each of Sulphur (0,20,40 and 60.0 kgha^-1 as elemental sulphur) and potassium (0,20,40, and 60 as KCl) in Factorial Randomized Bloch Design (FRBD) with four replications. The results revealed that the combined application of S₄₀ and K₄₀ resulted 60.0 and 114.0 per cent higher in grain and stover yield of sesame, respectively. Simultaneously, individual as well as combined application of S and K also significantly increased nutrients uptake by seed and stover.

Abstract

A field experiment was carried out in medium black calcareous clayey soils (Typic Ustocrepts) during Kharif season of 2006 to 2008 at Sagadividi Research Station, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh, with five treatments viz.,T₁-Urea.,T₂-Urea+Calcium chloride (Balance CAN), T₃-Urea+wetable sulphur (Balance AS),T₄-Calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) and T₅-Ammonium sulphate (AS) using RBD design with four replications. Nitrogen was applied @160 kg ha^-1 in three equal splits at basal, 30 and 60 days after sowing (DAS) from each source of treatments. The results showed that different N source treatments did not produced any significant effect on growth, yields and quality parameters of cotton crops but soil available sulphure was influenced after harvest of crop. As per economic point of view, for fertilization of cotton crop, urea fertilizer found cheaper as compare to other nitrogen sources like CAN and Ammonium sulphate.
